This is a short video I made that describes the current workshop:
When/Where:
TBD: Beaverton, Oregon
This is a 2-part, hands-on workshop to decorate either 2 small cups (3”H x 3”D) or a 7”D bowl made from terracotta. This class is for beginners or intermediate-level ceramic artists. All needed tools and supplies will be provided in class.
Each student will be using an etching technique called sgraffito, then adding underglazes to the leather-hard greenware. Everyone will create a unique design of their own making. Inspiration will be provided by a slideshow given at the beginning of the class or looking through a variety of books on hand in the studio. Or, you may choose instead to bring your own original design when you come to the first class.
Because the greenware items (unfired and undecorated) have to be nearly dry and covered in a white slip before applying this technique, you will be asked during signup registration to choose between decorating two small cups or one 7” bowl so they will be ready for you to decorate at the first class.
This workshop is non-refundable. Due to its nature, I am unable to provide a refund or credit to a future workshop. You may assign your spot to another person if you are unable to attend. Please let me know so I can add their name to the roster. In the unlikely event that circumstances beyond my control warrant cancelling the workshop, all those enrolled will receive a full refund.
This one-time fee includes all necessary materials and two firings.
Finished pieces will be available for pick-up at a later date, or shipped at an additional cost.
