Mosaic Squares with Heart Ceramic Mugs

These ceramic mugs of black lines and bold colors were inspired by Piet Mondrian’s abstract paintings of the first half of the 20th century. As you sip your favorite beverage, turn the mug to take in all the different colors and discover the single heart waiting to be found.

This is a collaborative piece: the ceramic mug was thrown by Thomas Graeper using a mid-range clay body, and I decorated the surface by painting a unique design onto newsprint using underglazes – each color contains 3 separate coats – before pressing it onto the terracotta mug. Made from a mid-range stoneware clay, mono-printed, etched, and fired twice.

All my ceramic products are handmade in small batches, often sold as one-of-a-kind pieces and may be perfectly, imperfect.
