Sally the Spawning Sockeye Salmon

Sally the Spawning Sockeye Salmon

After swimming the Pacific Ocean for 2-3 years, Sally heads back to her native spawning grounds to build several nests (known as redds).  There, she will lay up to 5000 eggs for many will not survive (her eggs are depicted on the inside in one of her photos).

Sally is wise, confident, quick-witted, and a visionary. Hand built of terra-cotta clay, decorated, and glaze fired to cone 04. Lastly the white scales on her back have a final layer of Mother of Pearl luster glaze, fired to cone 020, giving them an extra sparkle. More about this series.
