In December 2011, I went to the animal shelter with two of my boys. We were just going to ‘window shop’ for a cat or kitten. Yeah, right. We were smitten by one tiny little girl and scooped her up for home. On the way back, we bandied about several possible names. Lana was a favorite - Lana Del Rey the boys said. No, I piped in, Lana Turner, for she’s a queen.
Fast forward a few years later. I rediscovered my love for clay art and the Domesticated Queen Cat series was born. In my view, a Queen Cat is one who is dominant, struts her stuff, and knows she’s boss of the house - in a cat way. A domesticated Queen is one wrestling with her wild self that she retains while also co-existing with humans in their human ways.
This series depicts everyday life of any ordinary cat who happens to be anything but ordinary. She’s a queen!
